Free-ranging during the day gives our hens:
-Better nutrition (bugs, greens, variety)
-More natural behavior (scratching, dust bathing)
-Often richer-tasting eggs
-Free-range hens sometimes get creative and hide eggs
The hens choose to go back in at night to their coops.
-They recognize the coop as a safe “home base”
-Good predator-avoidance rhythm established
Eggs are not fertilized. We do not have a rooster.
